#MondayMusing Nov. Part I

Weekend Recap

Kicked off the weekend on FRIDAY night where I got to see a great Lakers vs. Nets game. Nets lost and broke my heart, but hey... whachagonado? Got to listen to a fun band called Great Caesar do their thing in the Billboard Lounge, which was super fun and inspiring. Swung by our neighborhood watering hole, Bed-Vyne Brew for one more beer before heading home.

(Also, my new shoes and my new winter jacket arrived and that just made my whole life. Thanks Zara for helping my Navy fix!)

SATURDAY

Got up early on Saturday for a little house cleaning and 2 solid hours of dancing and singing in the mirror to myself. I have Jojo's tringle to thank for that! Had a long talk with my little sis on her science-world slayage! She's a complete rock star and keeps me inspired.

Spent the afternoon in Soho walking around the city and enjoying the perfect weather. Met up with my wife and the homie Jeary Sylves for dinner and then headed to First Saturday's at the BK Museum. Got to see Oshun hit the stage and they brought a ton of energy! Hung out with some folks from AZ and some-to-NY people - so nice and so funny. Also, ran into my girl Hannan Selah, camera in hand as always!

SUNDAY

Sunday was a day for me and my lady. We slept in and after a slow slow slow start, we made our way over to Chavela's in Crown Heights for brunch. Sangria and micheladas. Guacamole and huevos rancheros. Need I say more? Then we took one of our notoriously long Brooklyn walks through many neighborhoods and down streets we 'd never ventured before. Brooklyn never ceases to amaze me. It's possibilities and diversity seem unending.

A BIG THANKS to New York and my amazing circle of friends and family for their great company, great sense of humor and ceaseless charm. You make my life so full!

#MusicMonday An Experiment in Song

Been sitting on so much music that I've been itching to share. Working on this new album has been so inspiring in countless ways. Though I'm still a distance from being done, I'm getting there. In the #musicmonday spirit, I'm throwing this track out there. It's called Whoa. It was the first experiment I played with for my new album. Basically, I took one simple lick and used it as a song writing and vocal exercise to spark me for the project. I wanted to create something that required a lot of vocal dexterity, but stayed true to heart of a folk song. It's super simple, but in the best ways. Very tender. This is one of the late night home recordings that I'm so endeared to. Reminds me of a time and space I was in.

Though this won't be on the album, it definitely gets at the spirit of the project. I thought it was time to share a bit of that. I hope you enjoy! I'd love to hear your thoughts.

CLOSING OUT #COLLABWEEK

Closing #COLLABWEEK with a s/o to Mr. Jay Wirth. He's young lyrical MC out of PA, but based in Brooklyn. We've been working on a great tune coming your way shortly. When I went to record with Jay, we had a great vibe and he is serious about his music and his artistry. It was refreshing! There's a finesse to his delivery, the feels rooted in someone who really appreciates hip-hop. He's had a great year opening for some hot NY MC's like CJ Fly and ASAP Nast.

Below is one of my favorites of his. Give it a listen and keep an eye out for our collab coming soon!

Finally, thanks for following this week and I hope you've encountered some new artists to follow and support. We are all independent, working toward something special in our own right, so the ability to get to shine a light on each other's work feels great.

I have lots of good news coming next week, so as always - stay tuned
